Overview
If you run a direct-booking site, its analytics contain the answer to the question that decides your marketing budget: where do people who actually book come from, and where do the rest disappear.
Extracting that answer is the problem. GA4 in particular is powerful and genuinely difficult, and most operators end up looking at a default dashboard that tells them a number of sessions and nothing they can act on.
Connecting Google Analytics lets those questions be asked in words. Which channel produced booking-page visits, whether the enquiry form is losing people on mobile, how last month compares to the same month last year.
The most valuable question is usually about drop-off rather than traffic. Traffic is easy to buy and difficult to convert, and a booking flow losing people at a particular step is worth more attention than another campaign.
What ProhostAI can do with Google Analytics
Once Google Analytics is connected, ProhostAI can query your traffic and conversion data.
Read
- Query traffic and channels See where visitors come from and what they do. "Where did the people who reached the booking page come from?"
- Read conversion and event data Look at where people drop out of a flow.
Create & update
- Compare periods Set a month against the same month last year rather than against the one before it.
- Surface what changed Highlight a shift worth investigating rather than a dashboard nobody reads.
Setup
Google Analytics connects through Google OAuth against the property you choose.
- Open ProhostAI and go to Settings → Connections.
- Search for Google Analytics and select Connect.
- Sign in to Google Analytics and approve the permissions.
- Ask where last month’s traffic came from to confirm it works.
Good to know
- Seasonality makes month-on-month comparisons misleading for rentals. Year-on-year is almost always the right frame.
- Access follows the connected Google account’s permissions on the analytics property.
- Drop-off in the booking flow is usually a better question than total traffic.
- Revoking ProhostAI in your Google account settings ends access immediately.
FAQ
What should I actually ask it?
Drop-off questions rather than traffic ones. Where people leave the booking flow is worth more than how many sessions you had.
Why compare year-on-year?
Because rentals are seasonal. Comparing August to July tells you about summer, not about your business.
Does it work with GA4?
Yes, and being able to ask in words is most of the point given how difficult GA4 is to query directly.
Which property does it read?
The one you select at connection, within the connected Google account’s permissions.
How do I disconnect Google Analytics?
Open Settings → Connections in ProhostAI and disconnect it, or remove ProhostAI from your Google account settings.
